Spiritual renewal is at the heart of Zechariah. In Zechariah 1:3 God’s people are invited to return to a relationship with him through repentance. After many years in exile God is going to show Israel mercy and compassion, redeem them out of their situation, and dwell with and bless the people again. Of course, this will ultimately come through the Messiah, Israel’s righteous king that will bring salvation to Israel and the world through the blood of his covenant. In the midst of defeat, God is bringing new encouragement and hope of a better future through God’s son. Zechariah 8:12 calls the people ‘prisoners of hope’–meaning though they still face the difficulties of the situations they find themselves in, they have a new undeniable hope in the God that he will restore all things and dwell with his people again. We invite you to come and join us as we learn from Zechariah what it means to hope in the Gospel.

Zechariah 2 - The Apple of His Eye

This Sunday we will continue our series in Zechariah looking at Zechariah’s third vision in Zechariah 2. Zechariah sees a vision of a young man measuring Jerusalem and an angel comes to tell him that what God is doing in Jerusalem is way bigger and better than he could ever imagine. In fact, God is going to once again choose Jerusalem, rebuild it, and expand it, and God’s glory will once again dwell in her midst! Zechariah’s picture of God’s redemption and restoration pulls on themes from the Exodus and looks beyond the return from exile all the way to the new heavens and new earth. This is a fascinating chapter that calls us to rejoice in what God is doing to redeem and save his people, to follow him in faith, join his mission to the world, and enjoy his presence all along the way and forevermore. I hope as we go through Zechariah 2 tomorrow God will encourage you in the hope of the Gospel that is way bigger and better than you can imagine. Take some time this afternoon or evening to read through Zechariah 2.
