Day 2 Feb 10, 2024

Eight hour time change made sleeping difficult. So we got up early to sort salt water taffy and scripture bookmarks into bags for gifts. Today’s schedule was lunch with a church family and evening with the youth groups for games and science talk.

Kristian, Jasna and Emanuel picked us up at Krista Kralja (Christ the King Pentecostal Church) for a traditional lunch at Konobo Tarsa. We munched through 5 courses of Rijeka’s rich hospitality and talked about life and how we became Christians. Jasna studied abroad in Maine and started to question her Catholic faith. It took another decade before she started reading the Bible and found Krista Kralja. Then married Kristian and brought him to church too. He saw the difference in Protestant churches through movies and Kevin Sorbo and was not hard to convince.

After some carb coma, we headed to the Baptist Church across town to meet the combined youth groups and their friends. Went over the Theories of Evolution and Big Bang, how life “evolved” at a faster timeline than genetics can explain, and what the heavens declare about God from Psalm 19:1 and Genesis 1. Then played all sorts of games, snacked and talked about grandparents who were imprisoned for their faith. Until 11 when the roof started leaking.
