Hey everyone! Thank you for following along on this Finland journey! This week has been so great. I’ve been meeting a lot of people and everyone has been so kind and welcoming. I want to share with you an awesome thing that happened this past Saturday!
A group of us (close to 30 people) from United Community Church went on a 2 hr ship ride down to Tallin, Estonia to do some gospel outreach. When we first arrived there, we walked down to the Old Town of Tallin – a beautiful cobblestone street town with colorful old buildings, shops, and a big cathedral (the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral). As we walked toward the town, we split up into a few groups to prayer walk the area. We went through the acronym PRAYER (Prayers for the Poor, Rich, Authorities, Youth, Elderly, Revival). This was a good way to enter into Tallin as our mission later in the day was to share the love of Jesus with the people there. There are a lot of atheists and agnostics in Estonia. They need Jesus.
We then headed to a busy part of the park where many people walk through. We set up a table with New Testaments and other resources in different languages, along with coffee, tea, and cookies to give away. One of the painters from our church worked on a painting that showed light shining in the darkness, which caught people’s attention and opened the door for conversations. We then paired off and approached people throughout the park to start gospel conversations.
I was nervous leading up to this outreach event – I was in a lot of prayer for the Lord to speak through me, and I know a lot of you reading this were in prayer for me also, so thank you!
I walked around with Pastor Shaun’s daughter, Eleanor. I was encouraged by her boldness and stepping out in faith to share the good news of Jesus to Estonians. Mark, the leader of this trip, gave us a couple helpful tools to help spark these conversations. We used a bracelet that had 4 symbols on it that helped to explain the gospel, and then we gave out these bracelets after explaining it to them.
Here is an explanation of the bracelet symbols (picture posted below)
DIAMOND– we are God’s precious creation, we are valuable in His eyes and are more precious than diamonds.
BLACK/WHITE BOX: We have a sin problem. We are on the black side (darkness), our sin separates us from God, who is on the other side (white side/light). He is holy and perfect.
HAND WITH BLACK HOLE: God had and wanted to do something about our sin problem. He sent His only Son, Jesus to Earth to die for our sins.
HAND SHAKE: God is offering His hand of a relationship/friendship to you. He did all the work, all we need to do is believe and accept what He did for us and receive Him into our lives as our Lord and Savior.
Eleanor and I talked to a lot of younger girls / teenagers. I was amazed at how they just let us speak to them and how they listened (I hope). I had asked some of the girls if they had heard this message before and quite a few of them said they hadn’t. Praise the Lord for being the first ones to be able to share the good news to them! We were able to give out a couple Gospel of Johns to some of these girls as well.
Many seeds were planted on Saturday, thank you Jesus! Please pray that God would water them. Estonia is lost, they need revival! Here are the list of names that Eleanor and I were able to talk to, please pray for them!
Seela, Lauren, Christina, Gyza, Bigita, Laura, Alexandria, Britta, Tammy, Marta, Karita & friend, Laura, Katie
Thank you again for all the love, encouragement, support, and prayers you all have been giving to me! God is doing a great work here.
