Today was a transit day. We meandered back through the island of Korćula and drove down the coast to Dubrovnik. The ferry left at 12:40pm so we had some time to explore old town Korćula. One of the earliest laws of this area was a protection of the phrase “Made in Korćula,” written in 1214. Please pray for EPC, the only evangelical church on the island.

The ferry across took 15 minutes, while the drive to Dubrovnik added 2 hours. We were a few minutes late meeting Lynn Lehn for coffee. She and her husband, John, have been missionaries in Yugoslavia since 1992. They will retire and return to South Carolina in three weeks. We talked about the challenges of the Balkan mission field. The locals have seasonal jobs from tourism and merchant marine, and therefore have seasonal depression and drug abuse. The pastors tend to be territorial because the churches are small. The immigrants who backfilled emptying towns stay for a short period before moving away. There are 2 evangelical churches in Dubrovnik, and one of the pastors just resigned. They’ll need prayer for God to lead them forward and to be able to apply scripture better.
