This week we are continuing our Advent Series, Whispers of His Coming, looking at Peace in Zechariah 9:9-10. The days when Zechariah prophesied were interesting times for Israel. They were back in the land after the exile, had a rebuilt temple, but still faced the oppression of a foreign nation and no real King to speak of. No doubt there was a lack of peace for the nation. However, Zechariah prophesied of a coming day when a Divine King would bring peace to the nation of Israel and all the nations of the world. Mathew 21:1-11 cites Zechariah to tell us that Jesus is the Divine King Israel has hoped for.
Peace in our day, both in the world and in our own hearts, can be very elusive. Even the Christmas season with all its busy hustle and bustle can steal our peace. As we celebrate and remember the birth of Christ, let’s focus once again on Christ’s birth that is meant to reveal the peace that is available to us in the Gospel.
Join us over the next four weeks as we prepare our hearts to celebrate the advent of Christ this Christmas season. We will follow the traditional ordering of advent focusing on Hope, Peace, Joy, and Love as we consider ‘Whispers of His Coming’ from corresponding passages in the Old Testament. Christmas is about celebrating the birth of Christ, and it is our hope this series will help you celebrate Christ and his coming into the world the first time as we look forward to his return.
